One local spot which is growing in popularity is Shortheath Water, Moira.

This idyllic small lake, with an island populated with wildlife which is seasonally decorated with yellow marsh marigolds and lilies, provides an exceptional environment for the angler. The relaxed friendly atmosphere and facilities make it one of the best fishing venues in the area.

Several years ago, the land was breakers yard strewn liberally with scrap metal. It was excavated and stocked with fish. A tearoom was opened and is now a popular venue for locals and tourists. The family who own and run the business owned The Hollybush at Oakthorpe (1992 – 1996), Mother and daughter team took over the practical running of the tearoom, which is now a thriving licensed restaurant. Joanne’s husband Richard, and father Pete organize the angling side of things.

The site has been improved tremendously since 2002 when the family took over. Landscaping has been done and trees planted, the car park and disabled facilities are of excellent standard.

In 2006 Lakeview Lodge – a bungalow was renovated on site and was accredited from ‘Visit Britain’ with four star self catering grading, another credit to this already successful family business.

In the 6 years of trading, the tearoom has established a remarkable reputation and offers good value for money, serving full English breakfasts, home cooked style lunches, traditional homemade delicious puddings and cakes. Many times it has been requested by customers for the tearoom to open in the events, so from Friday 9th May 2008 in addition to the usual daytime opening Lakeside will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings. The chef is creating a scrumptious mouth-watering menu for the evenings and also added new tempting tasty dishes using seasonal locally sourced produce to the lunchtime menu.

The tearoom is fully licensed and is a peaceful haven tucked away on your doorstep in the Heart of the National Forest. Whether you want a relaxing meeting with friends for coffee, lunch or afternoon tea or a meal and perhaps a drink outside on a warm summers evening, watching the sun set on the lake – warm friendly atmosphere await you and the owners take great pleasure from meeting new people and look forward to welcoming visitors back which are returning again and again.
