City and County Neighbourhood Watch Leicester and Leicestershire is a registered charity which relies on subscriptions and donations to continue serving the local community. It was originally formed in 1998 to promote good citizenship and greater public participation in the prevention and solution of crime and community safety issues, in order to improve the quality of life for all citizens living in our area.

The association runs a busy office and telephone hotline staffed by volunteers. We meet regularly with the police, local authorities and other agencies to resolve a range of issues on behalf of our members, including complaints about anti-social behaviour, petty crime and traffic problems.

How you can help to make a difference

Often it is the simple everyday things that make a big difference in the fight against crime. For example:

• Learn your neighbours’ names and be able to recognize them and their vehicles
• Properly identify your property by post-coding, etching, photographing etc. your valuables
• Do not take any risks to prevent a crime or try to make an arrest. It is important to have a good witness
• Observe and report any suspicious activities

To report a non-emergency crime to the police call 01162 222222. Emergencies or crimes in progress report to the police on 999, and then to your Association.

Every Year City and County Neighbourhood Watch Association sends out more than 30,000 items of mail to its members on a variety of home security and safety topics.

This includes a bi-monthly newsletter with the latest news, information and advice about combating crime in our country.
