We at Leicestershire County Council’s Trading Standards Business Advice Team offer free, friendly, expert advice and guidance to businesses based in Leicestershire – both established ones and new ventures.

We can help your local business to “get it right first time”, by providing you with invaluable advice on both current and new trading laws. Our advice is confidential and free, potentially saving you money and inconvenience on matters such as :-

• New legislation protecting both your business & your customers;
• Fair Trading including dealing with customer complaints, problems with suppliers, price marking, describing goods, consumer credit, internet selling, etc;
• Ensuring that your terms & conditions are enforceable and fair to both parties;
• Safety of consumer goods including toys and electrical equipment;
• Avoiding the risks of selling to underage customers;
• Food labelling, compositional standards, and nutritional claims
• Poisons, Petroleum & Explosives – licensing, registration and storage facilities;
• Metrology – checking the accuracy of weighing and measuring equipment that you use for trade;
• Access to available Rural Business Grants;
• Assistance with “greening your business.”

Our business advice team includes a “Home Authority” officer to act as a single point of contact for businesses based in the County and trading in a wider area.

We also produce an informative newsletter – Business Matters – three times a year which includes up-to-date news for businesses.
