SHACKERSTONE FAMILY FESTIVAL
One of the largest village festivals in the country – The Shackerstone Family Festival will be taking place over the weekend 5th and 6th September.
A superb entertainment programme has been put in place by this volunteer run family festival with leading the way, a full aerobatic display by The Royal Air Force’s Red Arrows, Josephs Amazing Camel Racing, Jason Smyth Adrenaline Tour Stunt Show , a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight display from a Spitfire and Bob Hoggs Sheepdog (and a few ducks) display. For sheer nonstop excitement will be the fast moving Fly Ball Tournament and adding to the excitement for the children will be the ever popular Shackiesaurus Children’s Club and the Traditional Fun Fair which for 2009 will include both a Ferris wheel and a Steam powered Carousel.
On rails, The Battlefield Line Railway will operating Steam Train rides throughout the weekend from it’s victorian built station adjacent to the main event field, On water will be the largest collection of narrow boats and working boats ever seen on the Ashby Canal. Their attendance is part of a large participation of exhibitors featuring vintage and veteran cars, bikes,military vehicles, commercial vehicles, traction engines, steam engines and diesel locomotives.
The gates open to the public each day at 10am and it is recommended to arrive early not to miss the days entertainment. Discounted early booking tickets valid for both days and camping forms are still available.
Organised by volunteers the Festival has helped raise over £350,000 for many charities and local projects since the first Festival in 1995.

BENEFICIARIES for 2009 will include:
Two nominated charities;
The Laura Centre based in Leicester (a charity offering support to anyone who is affected by the death of a child and for any young person who is affected by the death of a parent or carer) and The Royal British Legion.
The three groups organising the festival are Ashby Canal Restoration, Battlefield Line Railway and Shackerstone Show Society for Village Projects
There will also be many other charities and local projects attending.
