Loughborough Business Club

In these challenging economic times many business leaders struggle if they allow their heads to go down. The ones that are successful remain optimistic about the future, think big and take massive action.

In times like these successful leaders of sales-driven businesses, large and small, recognise the need to think outside of the box to explore and implement creative ways to keep existing clients and generate new sales. Everyone who knows anything about sales will tell you that word-of-mouth is by far the most powerful form of advertising.

However, evidence suggests that very few business leaders have a well-thought-through strategy and plan to develop their business through personal introductions. The majority rely on repeat business, advertising, seminars, the web and other ways to drive more traffic to their door. One study revealed that over 70% of business is generated through word-of-mouth yet less than 3% of firms have a robust and proven referral strategy.

In March 2008 the Ashby Business Club was launched and has enjoyed success as a forward thinking, dynamic and action-oriented team of locally-based business leaders. Since then the Loughborough Business Club has been launched with Donington, Hinckley and Burton in the pipeline. Coincidently we know that many local networking clubs that profess to do the same as us are either struggling or have capitulated all together. This means we doing some things very right that other clubs have failed or are failing to do.

These are four of the reasons we are so successful:

1. We invite outstanding guest speakers. These have included Christine Fisher (CEO of NW Leicestershire District Council), Richard Blunt (Quoted as “Britain’s trustiest restorer of listed buildings”), Andrew Bridgen (MD of AB Produce and Conservative parliamentary candidate for NW Leicestershire) and Simon Gillette the mastermind behind the forthcoming transformation of Donington into the venue for Formula 1.

2. Members are forward thinking, ambitious and represent many of the local and most successful firms; Fisher German, Champneys Springs, NFU Mutual and Crane & Walton to name just a few. For a full list of members go to the website below.

3. Along with networking we also utilise the enthusiasm, experience and talent of the members and guests to help address real, present and priority business challenges.

4. We work very hard for each other. For example we are regularly in the press, members are diligent in holding one-to-one meetings to uncover and explore mutually beneficial opportunities and members often take the time to willingly work on specific tasks and challenges on behalf of the clubs FOC.
