The White Hart Inn
A local service provider from Ashby-de-la-Zouch
The White Hart has changed over the years, although over the last 15 years one thing has stayed the same; Jim and Sue Grimsly have managed the pub. Moving for only one year, but soon returning as they missed the pub and its customers.
In the last few months the pub has been refurbished and now looks and feels extremely cosy, the perfect place to have a few drinks or lunch with either friends or family. The atmosphere completely changes on a Friday and Saturday night, when the pub becomes one of the busiest in the town.
On a Friday evening we start getting busy around 4 o’clock. This may drop off for an hour or so whilst people get ready and dressed up for a night on the town. Friday’s are usually the busiest, with Saturdays becoming a close second, and occasionally busier.
The White Hart is well known for having live bands on a Sunday evening, beginning around 9pm. This is every Sunday night and the evening is enjoyed by everyone that attends. The pub is frequented by people of all ages and everyone gets along.
One thing that the pub is well known for is the bear that can be seen through the floor. It is thought that an old manager used to keep a bear, and when it came to closing time and he struggled to get customers to leave, he would bring the bear out to scare them into leaving. It is also thought that the pub used to be a regular place where bear baiting used to take place. The bear which is kept in the cellar, underneath a window in the floor, is said to be the bear that the manager would enter into fights, but whether or not this is true cannot be said.
Although the pub is known for having Sky Sports and Setanta Sports and for showing most football games, it is more commonly known as a rugby pub, and will definitely show the rugby games.
There are quite a few sports teams that drink here, including the local rugby, cricket and football teams, who are all well known to the bar staff and managers, just as the regular customers are known, many on a first name basis.
Whether you are regular customers or new, you can be guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome from staff and managers alike.
